We offer our customers advice on caring for their metalware, long after we have serviced it.
Metal Polishing
Silver & Pewter - Akers polishes sterling hollowware and flatware to its like new luster. Silver plated pieces can be polished if the plating has not worn off.
Tip
- Many customers tend to over polish their silver. Washing regularly in warm, soapy water
and drying with a soft cloth will remove most light tarnish. It also allows the natural
patina to develop.
Brass & Copper
We polish and seal brass and copper pieces such as chandeliers, planters, lamps, candlesticks, fireplace accessories and trays.
Chandeliers and lamps are always rewired.
A piece that has been sealed will remain bright for approximately 10 years with proper care.
Tip
- To care for lacquered pieces, always use a dry soft cloth to clean and dust. Never use
the cloth that has been used to clean wood furniture. The goal is to not break down the
sealant.
Electroplating
Silver and gold - Akers specializes in restoring antique silver and gold to return them to their original beauty. Silver plating of trays, coffee sets, candelabras, bowls, flatware and other serving pieces found in the home are typical of the items we restore.
Tin Plating
For our gourmet chefs, we re-tin your prized copper cookware!
Repair
We can repair:
1. Dents in hollow ware.
2. Flatware that has gone down the disposal.
3. Replace knife blades, brushes, mirrors and combs.
4. Reattach handles, feet, finials recast or replace missing pieces carve and replace ivory finials and insulators in coffee/tea pots.
Tip - Do not attempt to use glue to repair metal pieces. It will not work
